AQUAculture Sustainable Industry Research Innovation. AQUASIRI is a research and innovation programme in Norway—working towards sustainable aquaculture with significantly reduced GHG-emissions and reduced local environmental impact. We aim to recover and recirculate nutrients, and thereby contribute to sustainable and circular aquaculture.
AQUASIRI is owned by Marine Bio Solutions AS, and research partners are Akvaplan-Niva, Nofima and NTNU. We aim to be the first to implement a full-scale circular approach to aquaculture and work towards carbon neutrality through all stages of our processes.
The AQUASIRI circularity can be simplified and summarized as follows:
1. Apply sludge collection in the leading solutions for both conventional cage and closed cage Salmon farming.
2. Sludge treatment conversion.
3. Apply recycled nutrients, in combination with other biomass, in industrial scale production of Polychaete.
4. Apply Polychaete as a sustainable marine ingredient in sustainable Salmon feed.
We believe AQUASIRI will not only give significant contributions towards more sustainable and circular aquaculture, but it will also over time yield better and more healthy Salmon by applying more marine feed ingredients, as well as important and significant contributions to mitigating the resource scarcity of sea area available for Salmon farming by increasing farmable sea area.
Marine Bio Solutions AS is developing and commercializing unique and proprietary technology and solutions for industry scale Polychaete production, HIPP™ (= High Intensity Polychaete Production).
